We’ll Never Be Royals

The colour purple—not the book, nor the movie—is commonly associated with royalty. In case you were asking. Oh, you weren’t?

The ripe age of 10 was when I first wore this purple, plaid, raw-silk midi skirt. It was part of my ‘Sunday Best’ repertoire; picked up at Glebe Side Kids and worn with disdain as the skirt was, at that time, a maxi and restricted my ability to race one to the jungle gym. Thanks to an elastic waist, I still wear it today. Why? Because it spans decades—literally—and works dressed up for a dinner party or dressed down for Sunday brunch.

What piece of clothing do you still wear from childhood?

What’s The (Colour) Story, Morning Glory?

Fighting the rainy gloom one day at a time. I picked up this canary yellow number at Joe Fresh. $12. I’m going back for the bubblegum pink.

When I was a kid, I used to dream in cartoon. I was always disappointed after I woke up; real life seemed so flat. Live your life like a cartoon. Bright. Full of colour. Like Natalie Joos.
